Group Deal

What is Group Deal

Note: This feature is currently available to selected sellers only.
A Group Deal is an interactive feature where viewers team up to unlock an exclusive price.
Sellers define the size of the group and viewers must form a group to get the deal. If the group isn't full when time's up, the deal price won't be offered, so sellers only offer the discount when the targeted group size is successfully met. This gives an interactive experience for your customers and can keep viewers engaged, while providing you with guaranteed bulk sales.
Eligibility CriteriaSellers with official or marketing accounts are able to use Group Deal, upon meeting these criteria:
  • Probation Sellers: Out of probation
  • Account Health Rating (AHR) ≥ 100
  • 0-pt violations: None from IPR, Listing & RCS
  • Overall Store Rating Score (SES): SES ≥3.0 (or NULL)
  • SFCR ≤ 2%
  • CHR >150

Tip: Select products with sufficient inventory and promotional price flexibility, or products that you'd like to run mass-clearance sales for. Step 3: Configure the Activity
  • Group Deal price: The deal price you set for this product. This is how much the audience will pay once the Group Size is met. Once the group is full, group members will automatically buy at this price.
  • Group Deal quantity: The stock reserved for each Group Deal round. This must be at least the group size. (e.g. If a group size is 4, the stock quantity must be 4.)
  • Group size: The number of people needed to form a group in order to unlock the Group Deal price, select from 3 to 6 people.
    • Once the group reaches this size, every group member will automatically buy at the deal price.
  • Duration: The time allocated for viewers to join the activity, available from 15 seconds to 20 minutes.
    • If time runs out before a group size is met, participants in the incomplete group are not charged.
Tip: Sellers are recommended to set at least a 10% discount, with a 3-person group size, and a 5-minute duration. Ensure there is sufficient stock to allow multiple groups to form within an individual Group Deal round!

No. of Viewers Joined42
Actual Groups Formed8 (5 people per group x 8 groups = 40 people)
✅ 40 viewers (8 groups) will have successfully unlocked the group deal price ($70)❌ While the balance 2 viewers will fail to unlock the group deal price and cannot purchase at $70.
Step 4: Publish Activity and Start preheatingOnce created, the product enters the upcoming (preheat) state. Before starting, pin the Group Deal product to build awareness and purchase intent.
  • IMPORTANT: Once a Group Deal activity has been created for a product, this product will remain within the Group Deal activity and viewers cannot purchase it at a regular price.
  • If sellers wish to revert the product back to regular product sales, sellers simply need to delete the Group Deal activity once it has ended. See below on Managing Group Deal Activities on how to edit or delete Group Deal activity.

  • If a group is not formed successfully: The incomplete group fails to purchase the item; members within the group are not charged and any unfinished orders will be cancelled.

Participants will automatically purchase the featured SKU once the group size is met and the Group Deal price is unlocked.
Participants can choose a specific SKU to purchase via the PDP page, before joining Group Deal. Each participant can only purchase 1 unit within an individual Group Deal activity.
During a single Group Deal activity, each viewer can only join once. For example:
  • Scenario 1: Seller runs 1 Group Deal activity only for 5 minutes. Viewer A can join this Group Deal activity one time.
  • Scenario 2: Seller runs 5 Group Deal activities, each for 5 minutes. Viewer A can join each Group Deal activity, after each consecutive round has ended. This means Viewer A can join up to 5 times within this livestream.

Upon joining Group Deal, participants can see how many more members are required before the group is formed. Once the group is formed, a pop up will automatically display, informing that the order has been placed at the group deal price.
Once a viewer has joined Group Deal, there are 2 possible outcomes:
  • Group size is met & deal price is unlocked: An order will automatically be created for members within the group, and they will automatically purchase the item at the Group Deal price. This will happen immediately once the group size is formed, regardless of whether the activity has ended or not.
    • For example: The Group Deal duration is 5 minutes. A group was successfully formed within 1 minute. Members within this group will immediately & automatically purchase the item at the Group Deal price.
  • Group size is not met & deal price is not unlocked: The incomplete group fails to purchase the item; members within the group are not charged and any unfinished orders will be cancelled.

Viewers who have linked their payment method will automatically get charged once the group size is met and the deal price is unlocked. If viewers had selected PayLater as their payment method, they are given 10 minutes to complete their payment before the order is cancelled.

Group Deal Strategies

Seller Strategy
What Sellers Should Do
Warm Up Group Deal in Advance to Build Purchase Intent
  1. Preview 1–2 minutes before: Tell viewers the product, Group Deal Price, required number of buyers, and activity duration. Also explain that they will not be charged if the group fails.
  2. Pin the Group Deal product: Let viewers check the product and discounted price in advance.
  3. Check purchase intent: Ask interested viewers to comment “Group Deal”.
  4. Start at the right time: Launch the Group Deal when several viewers have shown interest.
Set an Achievable Group Size Based on LIVE Traffic
  1. Start with a smaller group size: Set the required number of buyers based on real-time LIVE viewers.
  2. Aim to form the first group within the first 1/3 of the activity: For a 10-minute activity, aim to complete the first group within around 3 minutes.
  3. Adjust if the group fails: If the first round is unsuccessful, reduce the required buyers in the next round, e.g. from 5 to 3.
  4. Increase gradually after success: If groups form quickly, gradually increase the required number of buyers in the next round.
Choose Products That Are Easy to Sell and Easy to Form Groups
  1. Prioritize best-selling products: Choose products with stable sales and strong viewer familiarity during LIVE.
  2. Prioritize lower-priced products: More affordable products are easier for viewers to accept and purchase quickly.
  3. Ensure sufficient inventory: Choose products with enough stock to support multiple buyers at the same time.
  4. Avoid high-priced or niche products: These products usually take longer to form a group.
  5. Offer a clear price advantage: Where possible, set the Group Price at or below the product’s lowest price in the past 30 days.

Before LIVE | Select the Right Products & Create Conversion Opportunities

Key Action
What Sellers Should Do
Select the Right Products
Prioritize best-sellers, high-inventory products, products with strong demand, or price-sensitive products. Avoid products with limited stock or niche demand.
Offer Attractive Discounts
Create a clear price difference from the regular price. Calculate your margin and discount budget in advance to ensure the offer is attractive while maintaining profitability.
Set Achievable Activity Targets
Set participants, duration, and inventory based on historical concurrent viewers, product conversion, and LIVE traffic. For the first test, start with an easier target.
Plan the LIVE Flow in Advance
Avoid running activities throughout the entire LIVE. Plan key products and traffic peaks in advance, following a rhythm of Product Pitch → Warm-Up → Activity → Conversion → Next Product.
Prepare Host & Moderator Scripts
Prepare key selling points, countdowns, and progress updates for the host. Make sure moderators know when to start/end activities and how to adjust the next round.

During LIVE | Warm Up First, Then Launch & Optimize

Product Pitch → Warm-Up → Check Intent → Launch Activity → Drive Conversion → Scale Up
Stage
What Sellers Should Do
Pitch the Product First
Introduce the key selling points, use cases, and regular price first to build product value. Do not start the activity immediately.
Warm Up in Advance
1–2 minutes before the activity, preview the product, discount/price mechanism, and activity duration. Pin the product to build purchase intent.
Choose the Right Time to Start
Monitor real-time signals such as concurrent viewers, purchase intent in comments, and product clicks. Start the activity when purchase intent begins to build, rather than at a fixed time.
Create Urgency
Once the activity starts, shift from “product pitch” to “drive conversion.” Keep communicating the discount, participation progress, remaining participants/time, and encourage viewers to join.
Adjust Based on Performance
Strong performance → Start the next round immediately to capture demand. Close to target → Lower the threshold in the next round. Low participation → Don’t restart automatically; reassess the product, price, or timing.
Continue the Momentum
After a successful activity, reinforce proof such as “Just unlocked successfully” / “Sold out”, then quickly move to the next round or related product to turn one successful round into continuous sales.

FAQs

  1. What is Group Deal?
Group Deal lets you offer shoppers a fixed deal price that unlocks when enough people join the same group. It turns a promotion into a visible group goal during LIVE.
  1. How does a Group Deal work?
Sellers set the Group Deal price, required group size, group deal quantity, and duration. During LIVE, viewers join the Group Deal to form a group. When the group reaches the required group size, the deal price unlocks and those shoppers are charged automatically. If time runs out before a group size is met, participants in that incomplete group are not charged.
  1. Can more than one group form during the same round of Group Deal?
Yes. Once one group is formed, the group will purchase the product at the deal price immediately and the next group opens automatically while the activity is still active and inventory remains.
  1. What is “Group Deal quantity”?
It is the total product quantity allocated to the Group Deal activity - effectively the maximum number of units that can be sold through that activity, subject to available product stock.
  1. Does my activity quantity have to be an exact multiple of the group size?
No, the system will validate available stock when the activity starts and show how many groups can be supported.
  1. When is inventory reserved for the activity?
Inventory is validated and locked when you start the Group Deal, not when you first configure it. If there is not enough stock at the start, the activity may be blocked from starting.
  1. Can participants choose multiple quantities within a single Group Deal activity?
No. Each participant can select one SKU and one unit for a Group Deal activity, and can only participate once within the same activity.
  1. When are participants charged?
If participants have added a payment card during the payment method setup, they will be charged automatically once the group size is met and the deal price is unlocked. If viewers had selected PayLater as their payment method, they are given 10 minutes to complete their payment before the order is cancelled.
  1. What if a group does not meet the required group size?
If the activity ends before the current group reaches the required size, that group is not unlocked and the participants in that incomplete group are not charged.
  1. What if a participant's payment fails after the group unlocks?
The participants are directed to a secondary-payment flow. The payment failure of an individual participant does not impact the successful order of other participants in the group.
  1. Can participants cancel after joining?
No, viewers cannot cancel or exit a group before the activity countdown ends. Sellers are highly encouraged to clearly explain the Group Deal rules before encouraging participation.
  1. Can I end a Group Deal early?

  1. Can I run Group Deal together with LIVE Flash Sale or Price Cut?

  1. My product has an existing LIVE Flash Sale already pre-configured. Can I use this product for Group Deal?
You can only use this product for Group Deal once the LIVE Flash Sale has ended.
  1. Can the Group Deal price stack with other promotions?
Group Deal price can stack with seller promotions (i.e. seller coupon, buy more save more, gift with purchase), platform coupon subsidies and platform product subsidies. While, the price priority sequence displayed to customers is as follows: Group Deal/Price Cut > LIVE Flash Sale > Campaign price > Seller Flash Sale > Product Discount > Original Price.
  1. Will every participant see the exact same final displayed price?
Regardless of the Group Deal price, the final price displayed to the participant may reflect eligible stacked platform or seller incentives that apply to that particular participant.

Choose a price compelling enough to motivate viewers to join now, and a group size that your LIVE traffic can realistically fill within the selected duration. Smaller, reachable groups preserve urgency and increase the chances for successful group unlocking.
  1. How should I use Group Deal during LIVE?
