What are Auctions?

Why Do We Control Auctions?

At TikTok Shop, our top priority is to create a shopping environment that not only offers an extensive array of products but also prioritizes the safety and confidence of our users. In accordance with our TikTok Shop Content Guidelines, sellers and creators must refrain from engaging in any form of auctions or auction-related activities on TikTok Shop.
This policy aims to maintain the trust and security of TikTok Shop, especially by preventing potential fraudulent auction risks and unauthorized transactions that may arise from such practices. This proactive stance ensures that our users can browse, purchase, and sell products on TikTok Shop with the assurance that their transactions are conducted within a structured and secure environment.

What is an Auction?

An auction is a sales event where potential buyers place competitive bids on products, with the item going to the person or bidder offering the highest bid. Auctions encompass a range of actions, such as:
  • Bidding
  • Offering the option to place bids
  • Soliciting bids
Furthermore, creators and sellers are also not allowed to direct users to engage in auction-related activities on external or third-party platforms.

What Do Auctions Look Like?

The following are examples of auctions:
  • The creator uses a countdown timer to allow buyers to place bids for a certain duration. The buyer who places the highest bid by the time the countdown is able to purchase the product for the bid price.
  • The creator specifies the number of bids that may be placed for a specific item, such as 5 bids for a shirt with the fifth bid becoming the winning bid.
Example 1
The creator promotes a product during a livestream using an auction. The product price starts at $20, and buyers can offer higher bids to win the product.image
Example 2
The creator sets a 3-minute countdown timer for bidding. The product will go to the buyer who places the highest bid before the countdown ends.image

How to Avoid Auction-Related Violations?

TikTok Shop may take enforcement actions against sellers or creators who appear to hold auctions. Here are some helpful guidelines to avoid receiving auction-related violations:
  • Use fixed pricing: Refrain from offering or soliciting bids, or employing similar strategies to boost prices.
  • Refrain from using auction-related words: Avoid using auction-related words, slang, or terms such as "bid", "auction", "price starts from", and "open price" in your livestreams. This helps prevent any unintentional associations with auctions.
  • Do not promote externally hosted auctions: Do not promote or direct users to auctions on third-party platforms.
