Spotting Scams

Scammers might claim to be working for TikTok or TikTok Shop (e.g. Seller Center team/admin, social media team, account manager, recruitment team etc.), or employees from logistics partners (e.g. JNE, J&T Express, NinjaVan etc.). Look out for the following red flags to help you identify scams.

🚩

Red Flags to look out for
☐ Communication from unknown and/or overseas mobile numbers outside of the TikTok Shop platform, such as calls/messages, or being added into Telegram/WhatsApp/Facebook chat groups.
Requests for confidential information, such as your TikTok Shop or bank account log-in details, OTP, or credentials, or credit/debit card details.
Asking for payments/monetary transfers outside of TikTok Shop for various reasons (e.g. penalty fees, deposit to get rewards, investments, job purposes etc.)
☐ Misspelled links or links ending in suspicious/mismatching extensions (e.g. "tikt0k.com", "tikktok.com", "tik-tok.com", "tiktok.com.hos-id.art")
Requests to download unknown files/applications (e.g. APK attachments, zip files, etc.) which might trigger warnings from your phone when you try to download files or click on links provided.
Help, services, or monetary incentives that sound too-good-to-be-true, such as completing simple tasks for money, removing account violations, boosting sales or receiving payment.
☐ Unexpected email notifications from TikTok Shop for account balance withdrawals or the addition of new bank accounts to your shop/account even though you did not perform such actions.
☐ Urgent or threatening language (e.g. "urgent", 'high risk", "violation", "click now") in messages.
IMPORTANT: Representatives from TikTok Shop or TikTok (such as a TikTok account manager) will never request for confidential information such as your log-in details or OTP codes.

Common Scam Methods

Sellers should stay vigilant against scams. Learn to recognise the common methods used by scammers listed below!

TikTok Shop Employee Impersonation

Unknown/overseas numbers may send you a message via online chat platforms such as WhatsApp or Telegram. The sender may claim to be an employee working for TikTok Shop, or claim to be a general service account for TikTok Shop.
They may offer assistance for account services concerning shop violations and might ask you for your account log-in details, or ask you to click on a link or download a file.

Partner Services Impersonation

Scammers may pretend to be employees working for logistics/shipping companies (e.g. J&T Express, JNE, NinjaVan) and reach out via online chat platforms such as WhatsApp or Telegram.
They may claim errors or problems when shipping out your orders, and ask for your assistance to resolve the issue by giving them your account log-in details, or by clicking on a link or downloading a file.

Too-Good-To-Be-True Monetary Incentives

Unknown/overseas numbers may add you to a group chat for TikTok Shop sellers or creators. The group admin may claim to be working for TikTok or TikTok Shop, and may claim to be a member of the recruitment or social media team.
They may offer attractive monetary incentives in exchange for completing simple tasks, such as liking videos, posting comments, or following accounts.
Some people in the group may claim to have received payments, and may even send screenshots of the payments received in the group to convince you that it is a legitimate job opportunity.
