Product Recalls and Unsafe Products

What are Product Recalls?

A product recall is an action taken to remove a product from the market due to safety concerns, regulatory violations, or defects that may pose risks to consumers. Recalls may be initiated by regulatory agencies, manufacturers, or sellers to protect the public from harm. If TikTok Shop deems that a product may be an unsafe product, it may de-list the product from the platform and prevent further sale of the product. This may be done even if a product recall has not been issued by the relevant regulators or manufacturers.
⚠️ You may not sell products that have been recalled, or products identified by the platform to be unsafe. The platform considers these products prohibited products.

What are my obligations when a product is recalled?

When a product is recalled, you are responsible for:
  1. Immediately halting any sales of such items
  2. Taking the necessary steps to rectify any issues in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
Failure to fulfill these responsibilities may lead to enforcement actions against you.
The following websites are some channels that may provide additional information on current and past recalls, including regulator-warned products. You may receive information via other channels. You are advised to stay up-to-date through relevant local regulatory and governmental channels.
  1. Food and Drug Administration Thailand (FDA)
  2. Office of the Customer Protection Board (OCPB)
  3. Thai Industrial Standards Institute Ministry of Industry (TISI)

What are Unsafe Products?

Unsafe products refer to items that pose safety risks to consumers. Your product may have been identified as unsafe through various feedback channels such as customer reviews, returns & refunds, and/or customer complaints tickets.
These risks can stem from defects, non-compliance with safety regulations, or adulteration that compromises the product’s integrity or usability. Such products can cause harm, injury, or damage, making them unsuitable for sale on the platform.
You must not list any unsafe products in the platform. As mentioned above, the identification of unsafe products may lead to product de-listing and the prohibition of further sales. You are required to comply with these prohibitions.

What happens when product recalls are initiated, or unsafe products are identified?

  • You may be notified by the platform to take relevant action, such as ceasing the sale of such products
  • TikTok Shop may take down your product listings without any prior notice to protect the safety of our customers
  • Customers may be notified to take relevant action, such as ceasing usage of the product, or returning/disposing the product where appropriate
  • Pending/fulfilled orders may be cancelled or refunded (in some cases, this may be at your expense)
  • You may be required to provide a full refund for such products even after the aftersales period

What happens if I breach these guidelines?

As these products are considered prohibited products, if you are found to violate these guidelines (including the failure to fulfill your obligations), you may have enforcement actions taken against your product(s) or account. You should note that repeated offenses may result in more significant penalties.
Please see our Violation Reasons, Points & Enforcement Actions for Sellers article and Seller Terms of Service for more information.
If you think an enforcement action has been taken against you in error (for instance, if a product recall notification was issued and later withdrawn by a regulatory authority) you may appeal by providing proof, such as recall-lifting notices. To prove that your product is safe, please provide compliance certifications or other relevant safety documentation. You may do so via the Seller Center. Please read our Seller Appeal Guidelines article for more information.
